About SL25
A short (hopefully interesting) history
Resisting the urge to write this in the third person, here's a brief history of my life to date!
I was born in 1977, educated in Ascot, Hong Kong (long story) and Coventry. I've always been interested in form, function and design, learning to draw perspective at about age 9 with my grand-father. My education resulted in a BTEC Foundation in Art & Design and a BA (HONS) 2:1 in Graphic Design. Since then I've explored many aspects of design, working both online and offline but my passion and interest lies with all things 'web'.
Professionally
My career really started in 2000 when I started work with a UK based games publisher, Rage Games. I created numerous flash based websites to help market the Xbox, PS2 and PC games produced, including work on the website for David Beckham Soccer, one of Rage Games' largest licences. When Rage Games went into administration in 2002 I then joined a new development company, Juice Games, producing the company logo, website and working on their first console title, Juiced, helping to design the user interface.
In 2005, I then made the decision to get back into web design primarily and moved to a leading online agency, Rippleffect, based in Liverpool. This role saw me working on numerous projects, from small local businesses, such as Rapid Hardware, through to work for national agencies and football clubs, like Everton FC and Southampton FC.
I now concentrate my time and effort on working on numerous freelance projects for small to medium sized businesses, assisting them with their online prescence and consulting on anything from domain names to email setup. Having regularly seen many people over-charged for sub-standard web design and marketing services, I try to keep my prices as competitive as possible whilst maintaining the highest standards of quality and service.
Personally
On a personal level, my main interests are anything related to motoring. I'm an avid Formula 1 fan and saw Lewis Hamilton win the British Grand Prix in 2008, I enjoy the World Rally Championship and was lucky enough to see the Wales Rally last year, courtesy of the Subaru team. I also enjoy driving and modifying cars and hope to, one day, have a small collection of track toys to enjoy at the weekend.
My biggest passion, however, is my family. I have been married for 3 years now, although I have been with my (now) wife for almost 13 years. We have a 2 year old son, Oliver, and between them, they monopolise my spare time. I love being a dad and wouldn't change a thing, my wife and son mean the world to me and I'm a very proud father and husband.
To finish up...
I'm a web designer who is proud of the work he produces! A dad and husband, and a bit of a car nut!
I hope that gives you more of an insight into who I really am. I've just started a blog on this site, so if you want to view my daily thoughts, please check it out.
Client feedback
It was very easy working with Simon. Often the freelance design process can go wrong but Simon was very consultative in nature and always listened, educated and then delivered what the project required. I am very happy to have found Simon and intend to use him for future work.
